HVDC link between Indonesia and Malaysia
Malaysia and Indonesia plan to construct a new 500 kV power transmission link between the two countries using high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology with a transmission rating of 600 MW. The two HVDC converter stations at the Malaysian coast and on the Indonesian island of Sumatra are to be connected by two undersea cables plus two overhead transmission lines. Fichtner has been assigned with preparation of network studies, project management and further engineering services.
