Middle Marsyangdi Run-of-River Hydropower Plant, Nepal
With the aim of generating power, some 170 km to the west of Kathmandu the River Marsyangdi is to be impounded by constructing a combined concrete and rockfill dam and spillway in a deep gorge. Also part of the facility are three underground sand and gravel traps and a 5.5 km pressure tunnel as well as sufficient storage capacity for peak generation over five hours. The power plant in cut-and-cover construction is equipped with two Francis turbines. Fichtner undertakes planning and site supervision for this project, which also includes two access roads, a 132 kV switchgear installation and grid tie-in.
