Waste management concepts, feasibility studies and implementation for climate protection, Indonesia

With the aim of achieving cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, KfW is financing the municipal climate protection program “Emission Reduction in Cities ‒ Solid Waste Management”. In this connection, Fichtner was entrusted with identifying prompt waste management measures with the greatest CDM potential for eleven Indonesian cities. In the first project phase, we identified the present situation and most urgent measures for each municipality. In the second phase, feasibility studies were prepared for the recommended measures in five selected cities, and programs were initiated for expanding their waste management departments. Under a further contract, Fichtner is now assisting in the planning, tendering, site management and supervision of new landfills, sorting and composting facilities as well as in the closure and rehabilitation of existing landfills. Following commissioning, we will train the operating staff.
