Master plan and privatization of waste management, Turks & Caicos Islands
With the aim of implementing a sustainable, socially and environmentally compatible waste management system on the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Caribbean Development Bank financed a project for which Fichtner worked out a waste management master plan for these eight Caribbean islands. Additionally, we were contracted to undertake engineering and draw up tender documents for constructing new landfills. On the basis of our master plan, the government decided to set up its own waste management company and to privatize parts of the system. Fichtner was commissioned to develop a privatization strategy and the legal framework for establishing a private waste management company in public ownership. Further tasks included support for privatization of two new landfills as well as of waste collection and waste transportation services.
