Upgrading water supply and sanitation systems of the City of Granada, Nicaragua
With the aim of significantly upgrading water supply in the City of Granada, located on the west coast of Lake Nicaragua, as well as improving water quality at the lake shore, the sewer network is to be expanded and extended to provide denser coverage, with sewage plant capacity matched to actual needs. With financial support from the German KfW Development Bank, Fichtner was first retained to conduct a feasibility study. We then took over complete technical planning of rehabilitation and extension of the city water supply and sewer networks. Alongside engineering of the required measures, our tasks also comprised institutional reinforcement of the client agency. Included was a proposal for the organization of a regional water supply and sanitation utility that had yet to be established.
