Geotechnical support for new lock construction, Germany

For construction of the new 5th chamber of the Brunsbüttel Lock in the canal between the River Elbe and the Kiel Canal, provision had to be made for landfilling of the excavated material, which in part is contaminated. Fichtner supervised the entire geotechnical work. Further, we sought and identified a sand extraction zone to provide the requisite filter layers and assisted during sand extraction through soil-mechanical lab tests and field trials.
