2 GWp Al Dhafra solar photovoltaic plant, United Arab Emirates
The Al Dhafra solar photovoltaic power plant in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with an investment volume of around one billion US dollars, is to supply electricity to the national energy provider from 2022. It will involve installing more than four million photovoltaic (PV) modules with a total output of more than 2100 MWp along with a new 400 kV substation over an area of around 20 square kilometers.
As technical advisor, Fichtner initially developed the PV plant concept with battery storage as an option and supported the energy provider Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) in tendering the IPP project developed according to the BOO (Build, Own and Operate) model. Subsequently, Fichtner was entrusted by the contractor consortium with all owner’s engineering tasks during the construction phase, through to the end of the warranty period.
