Presentation at Hydrogen & Carbon Capture Technology Expo Europe 2024

Our colleague Dr. Joachim von Schnitzler will give a presentation at the CCS Conference of this year's Carbon Capture Technology Expo Europe 2024 in Hamburg on October 24, 2024. He will address the question of whether CCS is feasible in the German North Sea by presenting the German funded GEOSTOR project.

The presentation
Title: Is CCS in the German North Sea feasible? Insights in the German funded Project GEOSTOR
Speaker: Dr. Joachim von Schnitzler / Co-author: Dr. Sven Hoog
Date, Timing: 24 Oct 2024
Track: Carbon Capture, Utilisation, Storage & Blue Hydrogen

CCS and CCUS have faced resistance in Germany for years, and legislation prohibits sequestration in onshore and offshore formations. Nevertheless, the IPCC has declared that CCS is required to help reduce unavoidable CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, and Germany wants to contribute to European efforts. Since mid-2021, the German government has been funding the CDRmare campaign with over €20 million. The aim of the GEOSTOR project is to assess the feasibility of CCS in the German North Sea. The lecture presents the GEOSTOR project, in which Fichtner is a partner, and focuses on technology and cost aspects.

The event
Carbon Capture Technology Expo Europe 2024 will take place alongside Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe 2024 at the Hamburg Messe from October 23 to 24, 2024. This joint conference and exhibition will bring together representatives from the entire hydrogen and CCUS value chain to work on the development of innovative solutions for a carbon-neutral future for industry. The partnership aims to further develop negative emission technologies and promote the production of blue hydrogen.
