Together with our British subsidiary Fichtner Consulting Engineers Ltd. we have been contracted by Quarry Battery Company Ltd. to support their 100 MW pumped storage hydro development in Wales. The scheme envisages the connection of two disused quarries with storage volumes of up to 1.3 million m³ and a height difference of some 300 m by waterways and a powerhouse with pump-turbines of an installed capacity of about 100 MW.
Our services include a value engineering phase, followed by the preparation of tender documents and support during tendering.
The Quarry Battery Pumped Storage Hydro Scheme will help reduce CO2 emissions by storing excess energy partly produced by renewable energy sources and at other times releasing it to cover the gap between supply and demand.
