About the Department
Our highly specialized experts have been handling seawater desalination and water treatment projects for over 40 years. Fichtner has been involved in most major seawater desalination systems in the Middle East, Singapore, Australia, Italy, India, Spain, Egypt and Chile – initially as technical advisor under contract to mostly state-owned utility companies, but subsequently in independent water (and power) producer (IW(P)P) projects acting as lender’s engineer for financing banks or as owner’s engineer for the project company. Our company has built up an incomparable wealth of experience thanks to our planning of a total desalination capacity of 25 million cubic meters per day.
Alongside the thermal MSF and MED processes, reverse osmosis technology is also being used in large-scale facilities today thanks to developments in membrane research. The integration of renewable energies to support energy supply for seawater desalination is increasingly gaining in significance. Matching the desalination technology to the site conditions and the manner of energy supply requires meticulous planning.

Process Engineer or Mechanical Engineer as Project Manager for Seawater Desalination (m/f/x)
Your Tasks
- Advising our clients worldwide on process engineering aspects in the field of seawater desalination
- Engineering, tendering, contract award and execution of seawater desalination plants
- Planning and designing components and systems
- Preparing due diligence reports and feasibility studies
- Assisting in preparing proposals
- Conducting design review (reviewing the suppliers’ engineering)
- Acting as technical contact person for project managers and for the installation and commissioning teams on site
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in process engineering, mechanical engineering or similar
- Minimum of five years’ professional experience in the field of seawater desalination
- Expert knowledge in the areas of pre-treatment, membrane processes and water chemistry would be an advantage
- Knowledge of the conception, design, construction and commissioning of desalination plants would be an advantage
- Ideally you have experience in proposal preparation and technical sales
- Fluent in German and English, while Arabic would be a plus
- Motivated and flexible team player coupled with a high sense of responsibility and ability to work independently
- Willingness to travel (internationally) as part of projects
