Infrastructure and traffic planning for Majorca, Spain

For a holiday compound with 350 bed hotel, villa properties and sports facilities, Fichtner planned, on behalf of Urbanisación Collinas d'Es Trenc, the entire technical infrastructure, covering water supply, sanitation, waste disposal, energy supply with the emphasis on renewables, telecommunications, road and path construction as well as soil investigations.

Central services supply and waste disposal concepts for major property developments, United Arab Emirates

On behalf of an international project developer, Fichtner is working out various integrated and sustainable concepts for supplying major property development projects with electricity, water, cold/heat and communications/IT, as well as solutions for waste disposal and sanitation. These projects are planned worldwide in various regions. Alongside the technical specifications of the supply concepts, energy management is considered under the relevant energy legislation framework. The decision tree developed for the investigation permits at an early stage specification of basic energy and media supply for all the client’s future major property development projects. On this basis, the strategic model is prepared, with an estimate of potentials.

 

Engineering of the integrated infrastructure for the "Flower of the East" (FoE) project on Kish Island, Iran

In the course of being realized on the Iranian island of Kish in the Persian Gulf, the "Flower of the East" project will be one of the world's largest luxury holiday resorts for business and tourism with commercial areas, golf course, villas, luxury apartments and hotels as well as its own yacht harbor. Fichtner was awarded the contract to engineer the entire infrastructure for this project in addition to the landscaping of a total area of 240 hectares. In collaboration with our associated companies Fichtner Bauconsulting and Beller Consult as well as the Bremen-based harbor specialists Inros Lackner, we are developing the plans for the reclamation of 3 million m³ of land as well as the construction of 160,000 m² of roads and public areas and 7,000 m of moles and yacht harbor facilities. For optimal water supply and sanitation, we are engineering a seawater desalination plant for 22,000 m³/d of drinking water and sewage treatment plants for 12,700 m³/d of waste water. In addition, a 53-MW power plant, a seawater pumping station (330,000 m³/d) and a central cooling plant with an output of 36 MW are being developed. The engineering of the entire utility services networks comprises both the power supply network, the district cooling network, the gas distribution network and also the complete water supply and sanitation network. The entire Flower of the East project will be completed by the end of 2010.

Infrastructure masterplan and conceptual engineering of energy supply to Anting/Shanghai, People’s Republic of China

In Anting, a district of Shanghai (China), alongside automobile production facilities and numerous new showcase areas, a new district –Anting New Town – is being built for 28,000 inhabitants. For this, Fichtner prepared an integrated infrastructure masterplan and worked out conceptual engineering for “Anting New Town”, specifically the energy and waste management sectors. On this basis, conceptual engineering was prepared for district heating and district cooling, encompassing an energy concept based on German standards, from generation through network distribution up to the recipient in each room, so permitting drastic energy savings over Chinese standards.

Planning procedure for a refuse incineration plant, Germany

For Erlangen thermal waste treatment plant, Fichtner drew up planning application documents and prepared an environmental impact assessment. Because of the ecological significance of the site, comprehensive surveys of its flora and fauna were necessary. Under the procedural scope, Fichtner prepared responses to comments from agencies representing the public interest. The outcome was a positive planning decision.

 

Application for planning permission and plan approval for an HP gas pipeline, Germany

For the planned construction of a combined cycle power plant to be operated on a merchant basis by Concord Power Lubmin, for its fuel supply Fichtner also applied for planning permission and plan approval of the 210 km “NORDAL” HP gas pipeline through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. This involved, among others, the following tasks: routing, conflict analysis, preliminary technical planning, permits under technical aspects, and property questions. Additionally, the potential impacts of accidents involving the pipeline and precautions against these were investigated. The NORDAL gas pipeline is to supply the Lubmin plant with natural gas from the JAGAL transit pipeline, and it is to be integrated at a later date into the currently projected North European Gas Pipeline (NEGP).

 

Sanitation plan for Dessau District Authority, Germany

Based on an evaluation of various plans for sanitation from different district authorities, Fichtner prepared a sewage collection and disposal plan that was realized in a geographical information system (GIS). Additionally, standard software was integrated for preparing official notices, based on the GIS geodata.

Development planning of Stauferpark Göppingen, Germany

Fichtner prepared development plans for converting the Stauferpark terrain formerly used by the military to a commercial zone. Furthermore, planning with construction rights was presented as a basis for the urban development plan, with optimization of plot use.

 

Development measures for the district of Dresden-Klotsche, Germany

To control under timing and cost aspects progress of the urban development measures, Fichtner standardized the differing planning procedures for gas and water supply as well as for sewage disposal, and incorporated these into a GIS system.
